Welcome to the Longmont Center website.
This website is the informational resource for understanding the need for a performing arts center in Longmont, and how you can be a part of this extraordinary, historic project!
Here is a bit of background:
The Longmont Performing Arts Initiative (LPAI) is a group of local nonprofit performing arts organizations involved with the advocacy and support of the performing arts. The LPAI member groups are thriving to the point where the available performance venues do not meet their needs. There is insufficient capacity (both for the size of the groups and their audiences) and availability. In truth, the existing facilities were not designed to function as venues for the performing arts.
Meanwhile, the Longmont City Council indicates that Longmont has a unique opportunity right now to become a nationally recognized geographic center of science, technology, engineering, education, arts and entrepreneurialism. City Council has confirmed their commitment to making Longmont this nationally recognized center by entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with LPAI, Visit Longmont, Longmont Community Foundation, Longmont Downtown Development Authority, Longmont Chamber of Commerce and the Longmont Economic Development Partnership. Through the MOU, the partners plan to co-fund a feasibility study for a performing arts, convention center and hotel complex.
The feasibility study is the first step. It is as much a part of building the facility as
building the stage itself.
It is estimated that a combined study on convention space, hotel and performing arts venue needs will cost somewhere in the range of $100,000 to $150,000. The performing arts part of the facility is the most technically complex part of the project and will be raised by LPAI. We anticipate that the performing arts portion of the study will comprise about 50% of its total cost.
